The Invited Artist in Residence Program

Call for Submissions
Visual artists, performance artists, musicians, composers, critics, curators, arts administrators, designers and writers are invited to apply to the Residency Program. The program has been designed to provide work space, accommodation and meals in a retreat environment where participants can work independently on their own project(s) for a time period of one to five weeks depending on availability (not all consecutive). The Program also features an invited Artist in Residence whenever possible. The Artist in Residence is invited to work independently and is not required to provide formal instruction to residency participants. The opportunity will be available for creative interaction during social and serendipitous occasions (see Invited Artists In Residence). The Residency Program is offered in July, August and September (see 2009 schedule).
Submission Guidelines
To apply for a residency, you must submit a proposal that includes a completed Registration Form along with the following:
- CV or résumé
- one of - 1, 2, 3 or 4 below:
- ten photos, slides, or JPGs of your current work (visual artists and designers)
- a five to ten page current sample of your writing, critical work or curatorial statements (authors, critics and curators)
- a current audio recording of your music (musicians)
- a current video recording of your performance piece (performance artists)
- preferred dates of the residency (see schedule)
- planned program of work while in residence (250 words)
- spatial requirements for work production
- a brief statement (100 words) explaining why you feel you need a residency retreat.
Residency Details
- You may elect to stay for periods of time ranging
from one to two weeks (see 2009 schedule)
- You will have shared accommodation – depending on your needs and availability. Please note that all rooms are shared and assigned by the Campus Staff.
- Meals are prepared daily by the staff and must be taken in the Dining Hall. Cooking in rooms or cabins is not allowed.
- You are responsible for all your own equipment and materials.
- The Director will work with you to coordinate your stay and to ensure that the terms of the Residency are maintained.
Residency Fees and Conditions
- A $528.30 weekly fee plus applicable taxes covers meals, accommodation and studio costs.
- Payment of fees is due upon application to the Program.
- Notification of acceptance will occur within two weeks of receiving your application. If your application is not accepted, payment will be refunded or returned. Cancellation deadlines and terms will be forwarded to participants upon confirmation.
2009 Schedule
Submissions must clearly identify the week(s) of choice. Please choose one or more weeks from the schedule.
Residency A: May 31 – June 7
Residency B: June 7 – 14
Residency C: Aug 30 – Sept 6
Residency D: Sept 6 – 13
Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus Invited Artists/Writers in Residence
Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus invites one or more artists or writers who have achieved a high level of recognition for their area of creative expression to work on campus during the same time periods as the Residency Program. Thus, the opportunity is available for successful Residency Program applicants to interact with and share experiences with the Invited Artist or Writer in Residence. The Invited Artists or Writers in Residence are not required to provide formal instruction to residency participants, but will present one public coffee house (reading or slide/talk presentation) during his/her tenure on site.
